freelance webmaster, virtual assistant, and general hand holder(er)

Services

I offer a number of services which can be sorted into about three major categories: web design, virtual assistance, and general handholding. I don’t offer a complicated list of ala carte services from which you are expected to decipher and choose what you need without assistance. I am here as your ‘web person’. I do little and big jobs. And I charge a simple hourly rate…$35/hour.

My design work is generally php and CSS based, and standards compliant. I offer flexible and reliable LAMP hosting with cpanel (and all the bells and whistles) to design clients only, in order to provide a complete end to end service in getting your site online. And while I don’t consider myself a graphic artist, I often do custom logo and graphics work as a part of your web design project. I am a lover of WordPress and advocate it for most of my clients’ purposes….it can be made into much much more than just a blog. I create custom themes, modify existing themes, install plugins and scripts, and hack WordPress core files.

I provide managed websites and ‘webmastering’ services in addition to design work; all the niggling little stuff that must be done for a proper site, but that doesn’t fall within the framework of ‘design and development’. Maintenance, marketing, proofreading, content research and copywriting, market research, assistance with social networking, online auctions, merchant accounts, shopping cards, advertising, affiliate programs, and on and on...just building it doesn’t make it a good website that will increase your business.

In support of these services, I also offer what I call ‘general handholding’. This is the job of the most technically capable person in your office or home, if they haven’t gone on I.T. strike yet. Answering the little and big questions that help you get through the day without tossing the computer out the window. Training you to use a new program. Finding the solution to that problem that should be simple to solve but isn’t. Explaining what ‘it’ is. Think of me as your website and internet sherpa.

What’s It Gonna Cost Me?

This is not the easiest question to answer without some basic information from you; and the answer can vary greatly based on what your needs are. But the general answer is for a basic custom design and setup of a WordPress or other CMS driven project, a website can start at around $1500. This may sound very high but involves much more work than those without web expertise often understand and includes a wide range of features beyond just ‘design’. The best way to get a clear explanation and breakdown of the cost that would be involved in your project is to contact me for a consultation.

I am available for both on-location and off-site work, per contract, per hour, or per diem. On average, my hourly rate works out to $35 for a standard project. Per project rates ARE available but are subject to change as a project’s scope changes and require an in depth, paid (applicable towards project balance) consultation and planning session. For a comparison of freelance web designer’s rates, see Freelance Switch’s Freelancer Poll Results - average freelancer rates are listed about half way down the page, or Brenner Books’ Sample of their Nationwide Database of Rates for web design and publishing services - there’s a wealth of info here..look at it all. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs and receive a complimentary cursory consultation.

I also offer specialized service to and experience designing for the Pilot Car and Transportation Industry. Please check out my section just for you to find out how quick and easy a professional and easy to update website can be. I’ve also created a listing of various Transportation Industry Website Resources - many of which are free to use; I hope you find it helpful.
